Redstone community guide

Redstone is a Qualico-built community in far NE Calgary, inside Stoney Trail near Skyview Ranch. Launched in 2010, it's still building detached homes, duplexes, townhomes, and condos. It centers on a 3.5km pathway network, the Participark fitness circuit, and the new Redstone Market Square retail centre. CrossIron Mills, Costco, and Stoney Trail put downtown about 25-35 minutes out. It's still filling its later phases, with real new-build pricing and known school-capacity growing pains.

Who Redstone Is Best For

Redstone suits families and first-time buyers chasing new-construction value in Calgary's far northeast rather than an established, walkable inner neighbourhood. It works best for households who don't mind a 25-35 minute drive downtown in exchange for a newer home, a full roster of builders to choose from, and prices that still sit below the city's established SE communities.

Schools

Redstone's designated CBE schools are already over capacity: Keeler School (K-6) sends overflow registrations to West Dover School, and Dr. Gordon Higgins (grades 7-9) overflows to Bob Edwards School. Two new schools are in the pipeline but not yet open — a CBE K-4 elementary planned for Redstone itself, still in the design phase with no confirmed opening date, and a Calgary Catholic (CCSD) K-6 school for 340 students that broke ground in June 2026 and is targeting a 2028 opening. Confirm current designations directly with CBE/CCSD before counting on a specific school.

Amenities & Getting Around

The community is built around a 3.5-kilometre pathway network, the Participark outdoor fitness circuit, and playgrounds threaded through its storm-pond green spaces. Redstone Market Square, a 63,000-square-foot retail development at 106 Redstone St NE, is bringing grocery and everyday retail into the community itself, and CrossIron Mills, Costco and a Cineplex are all roughly a 10-12 minute drive away. Stoney Trail and Metis Trail border the community directly, Calgary Transit already runs a bus route through it, and a future Blue Line LRT extension linking Redstone, Skyview Ranch and Cityscape to the airport has been proposed but isn't funded or under construction yet.

Ahmad’s opinion

Redstone is a legitimate new-construction value play in NE Calgary, but it's not a community I'd recommend to someone who prioritizes school certainty over price. Two designated schools are already sending kids to overflow buildings, and the replacements everyone's counting on are still years from opening. Where it earns its keep is on straightforward affordability: semi-detached and townhome pricing here undercuts most of SE Calgary's newer communities for similar build quality. If your priority is a new home at the lowest realistic price point and you can live with a longer commute and some school-capacity uncertainty, Redstone does that job well.

Pros & Cons

Pros: New-construction pricing across every housing type, a strong pathway and park network already built out, Redstone Market Square adding retail directly in the community, and quick access to Stoney Trail and Metis Trail for getting around the rest of the city.

Consider: Both designated CBE schools are already over capacity and routing kids to overflow buildings elsewhere; the promised replacement schools don't have confirmed opening dates; and the commute downtown runs 25-35 minutes with no LRT yet, despite one being proposed.

How Redstone Compares

Vs. Skyview Ranch: Redstone's immediate southern neighbour, at a near-identical price point and build era — Skyview Ranch is slightly further along in its build-out and sits closer to Metis Trail's retail strip.

Vs. Cityscape: Also newer and also on the proposed LRT line, Cityscape trades Redstone's Participark and pathway system for its own pond and park amenities, with similar pricing.

Vs. Cornerstone: The newest of the three, still earlier in construction, and the community slated to get CBE's new high school — worth a look if you want to be even earlier on new-build pricing and don't mind more unfinished phases nearby.

FAQ

Is Redstone a good fit for a family with young kids?
It can be, but check current CBE/CCSD school designations before you buy — both schools currently serving Redstone are over capacity and routing to overflow buildings elsewhere in the city.

Is there a community association fee?
No confirmed mandatory fee — Redstone's amenities (Participark, pathways, playgrounds) are city/developer-built rather than funded through a private association like some lake communities.

How far is downtown?
About 25-35 minutes by car via Stoney Trail and Metis Trail; there's no LRT yet, though a Blue Line extension through Redstone has been proposed.

Is new construction still happening in Redstone?
Yes — builders are still active on single-family, semi-detached, and townhome/condo projects, including the Arrive at Redstone townhome development.

What's nearby for shopping?
Redstone Market Square is adding retail inside the community, and CrossIron Mills and Costco are about a 10-12 minute drive away.
